This just completed 7,500 square foot ode to modernism is visible from the 18th fairway of the storied Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. Floating raw-plastered planes clad on the underside with crisp gray-washed plywood panels appear to float above the lush landscape. Two architectural 'lanterns' as Kelly refers to them, accentuate the front and back elevations. The Lagos Azul stone floor shoots outside through an 20 foot tall wall of glass connecting the Great Room to an expansive stone terrace that provides commanding views across the golf course and out to the Pacific. Transom glass allows natural light to wash across the ceilings, enforcing the feeling that the structure is floating above the garden. Mitred corner glass is used high and low to create panoramic views from all the main rooms.
A dramatic bridge, open to the sky with a continuous skylight, shoots through the two-story Great Room linking the Master on one side to an office and private bedroom suite on the other. Glass-railed balconies offer even more spectacular 180 degree views across the lush clubland.
This sculptural masterpiece draws in light from all directions, at the same time providing direct connection to the outside environment.
